Getting Around Sarnia: Buses, Rail and the Border

City transit, the VIA station, Highway 402 and the Blue Water Bridge crossing to Port Huron - the practical pages for moving in, out and around Sarnia.

City buses and door-to-door service

Sarnia Transit runs fixed routes covering the main residential and commercial parts of the city, and the routes and schedules page is the one to bookmark. Fares and passes have their own page, including where to buy them locally. For residents who can't use the fixed routes because of a disability, the Care-A-Van provides door-to-door accessible service, and taxis fill in the rest.

Rail and highway connections

Sarnia's VIA Rail station connects the city to points east and to Chicago-bound service, and the station page has current hours and accessibility details. By road, Highway 402 runs straight through Sarnia to link with Highway 401, which makes Toronto or London a straightforward drive when weather cooperates. In winter, check the provincial 511 road conditions map before committing to the 402, because lake-effect snow closes stretches more often than newcomers expect.

Crossing at the Blue Water Bridge

The Blue Water Bridge is Sarnia's connection to Port Huron, Michigan, and it carries commuter, commercial and recreational traffic across the St. Clair River. Canada-side wait times are posted by the CBSA, and the Michigan DOT page covers the bridge itself. Have your travel documents sorted before you join the queue, since wait times can swing sharply with shift changes and U.S. holiday weekends.
